a Northwest Delicacy
Reefnet Caught Wild Lummi Island Sockeye Salmon!
Reefnetting is one of the oldest
fishing methods in the world and was practiced by Native Americans in
the Puget Sound. Utilizing this method, fishermen and women wait for the
salmon to swim over the net, then the nets are raised scooping the fish
from the water into holding pens. According to the Washington Department
of Fish and Wildlife "mortality and bycatch are lower than with any
other fishing gear" making this a very selective and sustainable
fishery.
"The Fraser River bound sockeye are deep red in color, high in Omega
3 and one of the best eating salmon in the world," says Tim Ferleman,
"the fishing and processing methods of this fishery results in a
wonderful, premier quality salmon."
Due to the unique fishing practices, availability is limited,
so please check daily to see which restaurants are offering this Northwest
delight.
